How do I Fix a 12029 Error?

Sunday, December 25, 2011 Off

1. Connect to another website using the same browser or application that caused the Error 12029 message. Successfully accessing another website using the same software indicates that the web server being used was unavailable at the time. Web servers occasionally go down when they exceed a maximum number of simultaneous connections. All you can do is wait and try again later.
2. Open a command line window to verify there is no TCP/IP Address problem. On the Desktop, click 'Start,' then 'Run.' In the box type 'cmd.' Next, type 'ipconfig /all,' and a list of connections appears. Check in the IP Address, DHCP and DNS Server headings that there is an address for each one, a number in the following format: 123.456.7.8, or some similar variation. If so, the problem does not lie with the IP Address and you may proceed to step three. However, to fix a missing IP Address, DHCP or DNS Server, type in the command line, 'ipconfig /release,' and then type 'ipconfig /renew' for new addresses. If this still fails to assign new addresses, contact your Internet service provider.

3. Open a command line window to verify that you are not having a DNS Server problem. Click 'Start,' then 'Run,' and type in the box 'cmd.' Next, type 'nslookup website.com,' where website.com is the site you were trying to access when the 12029 error warning popped up. Any result of a nslookup that shows addresses in the following format is okay: 123.456.7.8, or some similar variation. Move to step four. However, if there are no addresses listed, type in the command line, 'ipconfig /release,' and then 'ipconfig /renew' to refresh the address. Try the nslookup again, and if there is still a problem, contact your Internet service provider.
4. Verify that your firewall is not blocking the connection to the web server that your application is trying to access. On the Desktop, click 'Start,' then 'Control Panel,' and click on 'Windows Firewall.' Choose the Exceptions tab and go down the list to find the name of the program you have been using that caused Error 12029. Mark the check-box to add the program. If this still fails to correct the problem, continue to step five.
5. Run a complete virus scan to locate malware and a registry cleaner program to fix any corrupt registry files. These solutions are the last line of defense against an Error 12029 message. As you may now realize, starting with these measures can still end in failure without having fixed the above problems first. After running a virus scan, and registry cleaner, reboot your machine.

How to Prevent Low Disk Space Error Messages

Thursday, December 15, 2011 Off

1. Close programs you aren't using if they are running in the background. You'll immediately free up enough space to save your files. Windows tasks your hard drive when you have programs running or multiple windows open. If this method does not work, attempt a save to an external drive.
2. Turn off your antivirus program and check whether your hard drive space increases. Most antivirus programs take up ample drive space, or they can negatively affect a computer's performance while updating. To see how much space your program uses, open your Control Panel. Acess your 'Add/Remove Programs' category and review the list of programs. Each program name includes the amount of allocated hard drive disk space. If the program is hogging your drive, consider purchasing an antivirus product, such as AVG, that utilizes less space.

3. Remove any spyware or adware by downloading removal software for free from a reputable website such as CastleCops. Use the 'Hijack This' application to create a snapshot of your system files for review by a technician. The pro will tell you how to hunt and remove any harmful files.
4. Empty your Recycle Bin. Remove programs and delete files that you no longer use, including temporary files and Internet cookies. Remove programs in the 'Add/Remove Programs' list.
5. Use ScanDisk to locate and fix any hard drive errors. If you cannot find ScanDisk, run a search from your Windows Help screen.
6. Defragment your hard drive. Defragmenting frees up hard drive disk space by bringing all of your data together in one place on the hard drive.
7. Buy a bigger internal or external hard drive if all else fails. Many inexpensive internal hard drives are available and are easy to swap. Match the new internal hard drive physical size to the existing one, so that it fits in your hard drive dock. Check your manufacturer's list of recommended drives. Most inexpensive external hard drives attach easily to computers with USB connectors.

If a client requests a page from a website hosted on the server, the index.html file for that site needs to be present or a 404 error will result. Multiple websites can be hosted on an Apache server and each need their own index.html file. If the index.html file is not present for the requested website, reload the index.html from a backup or rebuild the file. Attempt to access the resource again. If the page displays, the issue is resolved. If the page doesn't display, proceed to Step 2.
2. Verify the requested resource. Within the website's directory exists all the pages available for viewing. Verify that the specific page requested is present in the directory with the correct name. If the specific page does not exist, reload the page file to the web directory from a backup or rebuild the page. If the file exists, but is misnamed, rename the file to the correct name. Attempt to access the resource. If the page can be displayed, the issue is resolved. If the page still doesn't display proceed to Step 3.

3. Check the server root settings. The server root is the top level directory, which holds the server's log, configuration and error files. If the server root setting is varied from the standard, the server may not be able to find the requested files. For example, if the server root setting is set to '/var/www' a correction will need to be made to the configuration file so that the server can find the requested data. To resolve this issue, access the server's configuration file and add the line 'Document root '/var/www'' above the lines that read 'User www-data' and 'Group www-data.' Attempt to access the page again. If the page displays, the issue is resolved. If the page doesn't display, proceed to Step 4.
4. View the server's error log file. The error log file is where the Apache server will log any errors it encounters. The error log is located in the server root directory and can be accessed by typing into the terminal 'logs/yourwebsite.error' where 'yourwebsite' is the site's name. Examine all the errors to determine a common characteristic or variable that is causing the server to report 404 errors.

How to Fix a GameGuard Error 380

Sunday, October 16, 2011 Off

1. Double-check your Internet connection cables. Error 380 occurs when your GameGuard software is unable to download updates. If a network cable is unplugged, you cannot get online, and the error will persist.
2. Click the 'Start' button.

3. Click 'Control Panel.'
4. Click 'System and Security.'
5. Click on 'Windows Firewall' to open your Firewall. According to Microsoft, your computer's Firewall scans incoming Internet data for potential threats. If a possible threat is found, the program is blocked from connecting the Internet. Unfortunately, this security measure can sometimes mistakenly block nonthreatening programs, like GameGuard, causing Error 380 to appear.
6. Click 'Turn Windows Firewall on or off.' This button is sometimes hard to spot, because it is tucked away on the far left-hand side of the screen.
7. Click to select 'Turn off Windows Firewall' under both the public and private network headings.
8. Click 'OK.'
9. Start GameGuard. The Firewall will no longer block GameGuard, and the program should update and run without an Error 380 message. Once GameGuard has updated, you can return to the Windows Firewall menu and turn the Firewall back on for better online protection. With GameGuard properly updated, Error 380 will not reoccur unless GameGuard releases a new patch that requires further updating. If a new patch is released for download, repeat these steps to update and remove Error 380 again.

How to Eliminate the Blue Screen of Death

Off

1. Stop Windows from automatically restarting upon system failure; this will enable you to read the contents of the Blue Screen. First open the Control Panel, and select System (System Maintenance in Vista). Next select 'Advanced System Settings' (skip to the next step for Windows XP) and open the Startup and Recovery tab, and uncheck the box labeled “Automatically Restart” found beneath the System Failure heading.
2. Record the error when next presented with a Blue Screen. For example, “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”–in this instance it indicates that the error was caused by a hardware driver. After recording the error, restart your computer. You can find a list of STOP codes and their meaning in the references at the end of this article.

3. Start Windows, should Windows fail to load on restarting, press F8 during the boot process, and select “Load Last Known Good Configuration.” Once Windows has loaded, you should reinstall or update your device drivers. The most common causes of a Blue Screen are outdated or corrupt drivers for audio, LAN and video cards. First open the Device Manager located in the Control Panel in order to find out what drivers you need. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturers’ website, uninstall the existing drivers, and then install the latest versions of each driver.
4. Scan your system with an anti-virus program. In some instances, Blue Screens are caused by malicious software, if you suspect this is the case, perform a complete system scan, and remove said software. If this is the case, reformat your hard drive and reinstall Windows.
5. Reset Your BIOS to Default settings. You can do this by entering the BIOS menu during the boot process. To do so, press the delete key early in the process (the key may differ between manufacturers, consult your motherboard manual or the BIOS startup screen). When in the BIOS menu, select the load defaults option then press F10 to save and exit the BIOS.
6. Replace the memory. Blue Screen errors may stem from defective RAM, which may mean replacing the system RAM, processor RAM (in which case the entire processor must be replaced) and video RAM. (This step should be the very last you try, as it will cost you money.) If you must replace components, replace the components in ascending order of price.

How to Fix an Invalid Win32 Application

Sunday, September 25, 2011 Off

1. Launch your anti-virus program and perform a full-system scan to remove any malicious files that could be causing Win32 application errors. If you do not have an anti-virus program, download a free program such as AVG Anti-Virus (see 'Additional Resources,' below).
2. Launch your program after it has installed, then click the 'Update' button to install the latest virus and spyware definitions. Perform a full-system scan and delete all detected malicious files.

To defragment your hard disk, click the Windows 'Start' button and choose 'All Programs.' Scroll up and select 'Accessories.' Select 'System Tools' and then click 'Disk Defragmenter.'
4. Click your hard drive under 'Volume' to highlight it and choose 'Defragment.' The process may take a couple of hours depending on your computer use.
5. Uninstall and reinstall a program if it has become corrupt. To uninstall the program, click the Windows 'Start' button and choose 'Control Panel.' Double-click 'Add or Remove Programs' to open programs window.
6. Locate the program that is corrupt and click 'Remove/Uninstall' to uninstall it from your computer. Insert your installation disk into the CD-ROM drive to reinstall the program. If you originally installed the program from a website, navigate to the website and click 'Download' to reinstall the program.

How to Stop Errors on Windows XP Install

Off

1. Remove the Windows XP CD from the CD case or your computer. Look at the underside of the disk. Analyze whether it is scratched or dirty. Wipe it with a clean lint-free cloth. Use a CD repair kit if the disk is scratched. Scratches are the primary reason for installation errors. Look again at the CD, and if you see large scratches you may have to simply replace the Windows XP installation CD.
2. Disable any antivirus program you may have running on the system if you are installing an upgrade. Antivirus programs conflict with Windows XP setup and can cause installation errors.

3. If the installation freezes, stops or turns into a black screen, turn off the computer and wait 30 minutes for it to cool down. Windows XP uses a lot of computer resources, so trying to install over and over again can cause more computer errors. Restart the computer and the installation process again.
4. Check for connected external hardware or internal conflicting hardware in the case of a desktop. Remove connections to external devices like printers, memory sticks and external hard drives to prevent them from interfering with the system installation. Restart the computer and simultaneously hold the 'F6' key and then press the 'F7' Key. This will disable any internal conflicting hardware.
5. Note when the installation has a problem and stops. Notice whether the setup goes further on the second or third attempt before it stopped. If this happens, restart the computer and retry the installation after it freezes. Continue doing this until the system installs.
6. Write the error code that appears and search for it in the Microsoft Help and Support database (See Resources). Some error codes will specify which hardware or software they apply to.

How to Repair an Inaccessible Flash Drive

Tuesday, September 13, 2011 Off

1. Insert your flash drive into the computer and wait until the readiness (if any) light stops flashing. If a message pops up on the screen asking if you want to format the drive---click 'no.'
2. Left click on the 'Start' button, then left click on 'My Computer' or 'Computer.' You should see the icon for your flash drive listed. If you don't, skip to step 5. Right click on the drive and choose 'Properties.'

3. A window will open up showing the properties of your flash drive. You may also see a pie chart icon indicating its full/empty status. Click on the tab at the top of this window that says 'Tools.'
4. Click the 'Check Now' button under 'Error Checking' to start Windows error checking the drive. You will get a window that pops up asking if you want Windows to fix any errors that are found, check that box as well as the box for 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors,' then click 'Start.' If Windows complains of being unable to read the drive or wants to format it first, click 'No.'
5. If the steps in Windows failed, your final option is to use the command structure beneath Windows to try to fix the drive manually. Click the 'Start' button then type 'cmd' in the search or run area to open up a command prompt.
6. Browse to your flash drive's directory by typing in its drive letter followed by a colon: for example 'k:' If you do not know your drive's letter, experiment to find it starting with the letter 'E' if you have a single CD-ROM in your computer (which is usually 'D'). Go down the alphabet until you get the message: 'The System Cannot Find the Drive Specified.' The last drive letter you got is probably your flash drive.
7. Type in 'chkdsk' at the command prompt and wait for the check to complete (it should be fairly quick). If check disk finds errors, it will offer to fix them. Choose 'y' at the command prompt and it will repair the drive.
