1. Click 'Start,' 'Run.'
2. Enter 'cmd' in the 'Open:' box. Click 'OK.'

3. Type 'netsh winsock reset' at the 'C:\' prompt. Press 'Enter' or 'Return.' The Winsock repair tool will run. You will be prompted when the process is complete.
4. Type 'exit' at the 'C:\' prompt. Press 'Enter' or 'Return.'
5. Click 'Start,' 'Turn Off Computer,' 'Restart.' Test your Internet connection after your computer restarts, if an error occurs, proceed to the 'Repairing Winsock -- Windows XP Without Service Pack 2' section.

6. Click 'Start,' 'Run.' Enter 'regedit' in the 'Open:' box. Click 'OK.'
7. Click 'Edit,' 'Find.'
8. Enter 'Winsock' in the 'Find what:' box. Click 'Find Next.' The search results will appear in the right pane of the Registry Editor.Click on the 'Winsock' entry. Press the 'Delete' key on your computer's keyboard. Click 'Yes' when prompted 'Are you sure you want to delete this value?'
9. Enter 'Winsock2' in the 'Find what:' box. Click 'Find Next.'Click on the 'Winsock2' entry. Press the 'Delete' key. Click 'Yes' when prompted 'Are you sure you want to delete this value?'
10. Click 'File,' 'Exit' to close the Registry Editor. Click 'Start,' 'Turn Off Computer,' 'Restart.'
Proceed to the 'Install TCP/IP' section after your computer restarts.

11. Click 'Start.' Right-click on 'My Network Places.' Select 'Properties.'
12. Right-click on the 'Local Area Connection' icon. Select 'Properties.' Click on the 'Install' button.
13. Click on 'Protocol.' Click the 'Add' button. Click on 'Have Disk...'
14. Enter 'C:\Windows\inf' in the box under the heading 'Copy manufacturer's files from.' Click 'OK.'
15. Click on 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).' Click 'OK.'Click 'Start,' 'Turn Off Computer,' 'Restart' to restart your computer. Winsock is now repaired.
