How to Repair Error 1058 Auto Update in Windows XP for Free

1. Open the Control Panel by clicking 'Start,' then 'Control Panel.'
2. Open the Administrative Tools folder by double-clicking 'Administrative Tools' in the Control Panel window in classic view, or clicking 'Performance and Maintenance,' then 'Administrative Tools' in category view.

3. Open the Services tool by double-clicking 'Services' in the Control Panel window.
4. Open the Automatic Updates service properties by double-clicking 'Automatic Updates' in the right pane of the Services window.
5. Click the 'Log On' tab at the top of the Automatic Update Properties window.
6. Select the current hardware profile listed as 'Disabled' by clicking it under 'You Can Enable or Disable This Service for the Hardware Profiles Listed Below' on the Log On tab.
7. Enable Automatic Updates for the current hardware profile by clicking 'Enable.'
8. Click the 'General' tab at the top of the Automatic Updates Properties window.
9. Start the Automatic Updates service by clicking 'Start' under the General tab, then clicking 'OK.'
