How to Solve Error 678 for Your Internet Connection

1. Double-check your Internet connection to be sure your computer is connected to the Internet.
2. Check your Internet Adapter to make sure it is enabled, by clicking on 'Start', 'Run' and typing ncpa.cpl. Then, click 'OK' and click 'Internet Connections' to make sure it is enabled. As long a you see the internet adapter listed, it is enabled. If it is not listed, restart the adapter and try again.

3. Reset your modem by unplugging it and plugging it in again.
4. Use the Device Manager to uninstall the modem and then reinstall the modem. Click on 'Device Manager,' then choose the modem. Click 'uninstall,' and the computer will automatically uninstall the modem. Then, reboot your computer and plug your modem into it once again. The computer will recognize the modem and will ask you if you would like to install the new hardware. Click 'Yes' or 'Install,' and the computer will automatically install the modem once again. Once this happens, the error should be cleared.
