Disable Third-party Applications
1. Look in the Windows notification area by the system clock for Carbonite or IDrive application icons. Click the arrow icon to show hidden icons.
2. Right click Carbonite or IDrive application icons to open the menu options. For Carbonite, click 'Disable Carbonite.' For the IDrive icon, click 'Stop Scheduled Backup' and 'Disable Scheduled Backup.'

3. Click the Windows logo icon. Go to 'All Programs,' select 'StuffIt,' then 'StuffIt Tools,' and click 'Expander' to open the main program window. Select 'Edit/Application Options.' Click the 'Zip archives (.zip)' box to remove the check mark. Click 'OK.'
4. Open the options menu for any other third-party program on your computer that is responsible for associating, opening or managing '.zip' files. Deselect the '.zip' file option to remove the association. Or disable the program altogether.
5. Click the Windows logo button. Type 'backup' in the 'Search programs and files' box and press Enter. Click 'Set up backup' to begin the Windows backup process.
6. Enable all programs and applications, such as Carbonite, IDrive and StuffIt, after Windows backup has completed.
Download Windows 7 Hotfix
7. Open your Internet browser and go to Microsoft.com. Click 'Microsoft Support Home' from the 'Support' tab.
8. Type '2283445 hotfix' in the search box at the top of the page. Press Enter or click the search button. Click the title of the article number that mentions the backup process. Read the symptoms section to confirm that the Windows 7 hotfix applies to your situation.
9. Click the 'View and request hotfix downloads' near the top of the page next to the hotfix icon. Click the box for either the 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 version you have installed on your computer. Type your email address in the box and click 'Request hotfix.'
10. Check the email inbox which you registered for the Windows 7 hotfix. Open the email from Microsoft.com. Double click the password listed in the 'Package' section at the bottom of the email to highlight it. Right click the highlighted password and click 'Copy.'
11. Click the link at the bottom of the email in the 'Package' section. Save the file to the Windows desktop. Double click the 'exe' file to open it. Click 'Run.' Click 'Continue.' Click the 'Browse' icon, select 'Desktop' from the list and click 'OK.' Click 'OK.' Right click the password field and click 'Paste.' Click 'OK' to extract the installation file.
12. Double click the hotfix installation file on your desktop. Click 'Yes' if a user-account control message appears. Follow any on-screen prompts and wait for Windows to automatically install and apply the hotfix on your computer.
13. Open the Windows backup utility. Click the 'Set up backup' option to restart Windows backup and proceed as normal.
