Windows 7: How to Disable Windows Defender in the Registry

1. Open Registry Editor by clicking 'Start,' typing 'regedit' into the 'Search' box at the bottom of the Start menu and pressing 'Enter.'
2. Click 'Yes' in the User Account Control confirmation window, if it appears.

3. Click the expansion box to the left of the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,' 'SOFTWARE,' 'Policies' and 'Microsoft' folders on the left side of the Registry Editor program window.
4. Scroll down and click the 'Windows Defender' folder beneath 'Microsoft.'
5. Select the 'DisableAntiSpyware' value by clicking it on the right side of the program window.
6. Click 'Edit' in the menu in the upper-left corner of the program window and then click 'Permissions.'
7. Click the 'Advanced' button in the 'Permissions' window.
8. Click the 'Owner' tab at the top of the 'Advanced Security Settings' window.
9. Select 'Administrators' in the 'Change Owner To:' box and then click 'OK.'
10. Select 'Administrators' in the 'Group or User Names' list.
11. Click to select the check box under 'Allow' to the right of 'Full Control' and then click 'OK.'
12. Double-click the 'DisableAntiSpyware' value.
13. Type '1' into the 'Value Data' box.
14. Click 'OK.'
