1. Click the 'Start' button.
2. Select 'Control Panel.' The Control Panel opens up in a new window.

3. Click 'Programs.'
4. Click 'Programs and Features.' A list of currently installed programs appears on your screen.
5. Click 'iTunes' from the list of programs.
6. Click 'Uninstall.' According to Apple's website, uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling the latest version will fix the 1601 error.
7. Open your Internet browser and visit apple.com/itunes.
8. Click the blue 'Download iTunes' button in the upper right-hand corner and follow the onscreen directions to download and install the latest version of iTunes. This should prevent future 1601 errors when you restore your iPod Touch.
