How to Check an SD Card for Errors

1. Insert the SD card into your PC's SD card slot, sliding it in firmly until it clicks and locks into place.
2. Click the 'Start' button (Windows XP) or Windows logo icon (Windows Vista and 7) on the taskbar to open the Start menu.

3. Select 'My Computer' (Windows XP) or 'Computer' (Windows Vista and 7).
4. Right-click the SD card icon that appears in the computer menu.
5. Choose 'Properties' from the list of options.
6. Select the 'Tools' tab.
7. Click the 'Check now' button under the Error-Checking section of the Properties menu.
8. Check the appropriate boxes to 'Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.'
9. Select 'Start' to begin the error-checking process.
