How to Repair a MSN Error 80004005

1. Check if you are running the latest MSN Messenger version by visiting the Windows Live Messenger page (see Resources). As of April 2011 the latest MSN Messenger version is Windows Live Messenger 2011. If you need to update your Messenger, click the 'Download Now' tab and install the new version. If you are using the latest version proceed with the following steps.
2. Close your MSN Messenger window, right-click on its icon displayed in your taskbar and select 'Exit.' Thereafter access you computer's run window by pressing the key on your keyboard with the Windows logo and then pressing 'r.'

3. Type 'cmd' in the text box displayed on the run window and then click 'OK.' The Command Prompt window will now be displayed on your screen.
4. Type the following commands on the Command Prompt window. Press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard after typing each command. Type 'cd\' and press 'Enter,' type 'cd %appdata%\Microsoft' and press 'Enter,' type ''cd 'msn messenger'' press 'Enter,' and finish by typing 'del /s listcache.dat' and pressing 'Enter.' Once you are finished typing these commands, the cache files for your Messenger will be deleted.
5. Click on the MSN Messenger icon displayed in your taskbar to launch it and then log in as usual.
