1. Click the Windows 'Start' button on the VPN server. Click the 'Administrative Tools' icon in the menu, then click 'Routing and Remote Access.' This shortcut opens the RRAS utility to configure the server.
2. Right-click the VPN server name and select 'Properties.' In the opened window, click the 'Logging' tab. Check the box labeled 'Log errors and warnings.' Click 'OK.' This option logs all VPN events to the server's Event Viewer, which is where you read the VPN logs.

3. Click the Windows 'Start' button again. Type 'event viewer' in the text box. The Windows server Event Viewer opens. Click the VPN event in the list of log entries. A window opens with details of the VPN event.
4. Read the details of the VPN entry. The details tell you if the VPN log entry is a security violation or an error in the software. The type of error also has a reference to a Microsoft web page that you can use to find more information. Click the link to view more details. The link also tells you what action you must take to fix the error.
