How to Copy an Error Screen to WordPad

1. Leave the error window open when it pops up. Click anywhere on the window to make it the 'active' window. When a window is not active, the colored bar at the top appears slightly lightened. Once you click on the window and make it active, the color on the bar is more vivid.
2. Press the ALT key and the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard. Sometimes this button is labeled 'prt sc' or 'prnt scrn.' The ALT Print Screen combination captures a screen shot (a picture of the screen) of the active window, which in this case is the error message. The screen shot is stored in your computer's memory much like if you were doing a 'cut and paste' operation in your word processor.

3. Open WordPad by clicking the Windows Start button (the Start button if you're using Windows XP) at the bottom-left corner of your desktop and selecting All Programs, then Accessories and then WordPad.
4. Hold down the CTRL key and the letter 'V' at the same time, and the error window will paste in your WordPad document. If you want to email the document with the error message, then save the WordPad document and attach it to an email. If you want a hard copy of the error window, print the document.
