1. Click the desktop's 'Start' button to open the 'Start' menu. Click the 'Run' icon.
2. Type 'regedit' into the 'Run' text box and click the 'OK' button. The Microsoft registry editor will open.
3. Navigate to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer,' on the left-side pane of the registry editor.
4. Locate 'NoActiveDesktop' in the right-side pane of application and right-click it, then select 'Modify.'
5. Type in the numeral '0' in the 'Value Entry' section in the onscreen prompt. Click 'OK' and reboot your computer system.
