How to Fix a Fatal System Error on XP

1. Turn on your computer.
2. Insert your Windows XP install CDs immediately after you turn on your computer.
3. Select the option to boot Windows XP from the CD.
4. Press the “R” key to open the recovery console.
5. Type your computer administrator's password when prompted. If you have not set a password for the administrator user account on Windows, you do not need to enter a password. When you are finished, press enter.
6. Type “chkdisk” (without the quotation marks) at the command prompt and press “Enter.” Wait for the chkdisk program to complete.
7. Remove your Windows XP installation CD and type “exit” at the command prompt. Press “Enter.” This will reboot your computer. It should start normally now.
