Correct Server-Side Problems
1. Close the Windows Update window.
2. Wait 15 minutes.

3. Click 'Start.' Type 'update' (without quotes) in the 'Search' text field. Click 'Windows Update.'
4. Click 'Check for updates' in the left column, and click 'Install updates.' Proceed with the next section if you receive the Windows Update 80072efd error again.
Change Firewall Settings
5. Open your firewall preferences by right-clicking on the firewall icon in your system tray and selecting 'Preferences' or 'Options.'
6. Access the 'Exceptions' or 'White list' section of the firewall's options.
7. Add the following URLs to the website 'Exceptions':http://*.update.microsoft.comhttps://*.update.microsoft.comhttp://download.windowsupdate.com
8. Allow the 'Windows Update Service' to connect via port 80 and port 443 by adding them to your 'Allowed programs' list.
