Check Errors in the Windows Event Viewer
1. Click 'Start,' right-click 'Computer' and choose 'Manage.'
2. Click the arrow in front of 'Event Viewer,' double-click on the folder 'Windows Logs' and click on the log containing the event you wish to view, such as 'System,' or 'Application.' The 'System' log lists system errors such as driver failure while the 'Application' log lists errors that are caused by programs.

3. Double-click on an Event in the list to view detailed information about the event. Blue screen errors will typically be listed with an event type or level of 'Error.'
Check Errors when they Occur
4. Click 'Start,' type 'sysdm.cpl' into the search field and press 'Enter.' You can also click 'Start,' 'Run,' type 'sysdm.cpl' into the run field and press 'Enter.'
5. Click the 'Advanced' tab and then click 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery.'
6. Uncheck the box called 'Automatically restart' and click 'OK.' The next time your computer experiences a blue screen error, it will not restart automatically. This will allow you to check and record all the information on the error screen before turning off the computer and starting it back up manually.
