How to Do a Windows XP Disk Check on Startup

1. Click 'Start' and 'My Computer.'
2. Right-click the disk you want to check and click 'Properties.'
3. Click the 'Tools' tab at the top of the 'Properties' window.
4. Click 'Check Now.'
5. Click the 'Automatically Fix File System Errors' and 'Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors' check boxes. The disk check is performed in read-only mode and doesn't fix problems unless these check boxes are checked.
6. Click 'Start.'
7. Click 'Yes' when asked if you want to check the disk at the next startup.
8. Restart your computer by clicking 'Start,' 'Turn Off Computer' and 'Restart.'
