Troubleshoot the Error
1. Click on the 'Start' button located in the bottom right-hand corner of your desktop. Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon.
2. Click on 'Properties' in the drop-down menu.

3. Choose the 'Hardware' tab in the 'System Properties' dialog box and click on the 'Device Manager' button--this will open up your computer's 'Device Manager' dialog.
4. Browse and locate 'USB Serial Bus Controllers.' Click on the ' ' sign to expand this section. Observe if a yellow exclamation mark is beside any entry that is listed in this section.
5. Double-click on the highlighted entry and then click on 'Device Status.' If you get the message, 'This device cannot start. (Code 10),' as the status, then a problem exists with the device. The solution is to remove and reinstall your USB controllers.
Fixing Code 10 Error
6. Click on the 'Start' button in the desktop and then right-click on the 'My Computer' icon. Click on 'Properties' in the drop-down menu.
7. Click on the 'Hardware' tab the 'System Properties' dialog box and click on 'Device Manager.' Open and expand the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' category by clicking on the ' ' sign.
8. Right click on each of the devices under the 'USB Controller' section and remove by clicking on 'Uninstall.'
9. Close the 'Device Manager' dialog box and reboot your computer. The USB controllers in your computer will automatically be reinstalled, thus fixing the Error Code 10 problem.
