Clean Printer Install
1. Navigate to Control Panel > Printers and delete all printers by right-clicking on printer icons and selecting 'Delete.' If you don't see any printers, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and uninstall/remove programs relating to the printer. The spooler error could be caused by a defective print driver. This will delete all drivers.
2. Download the latest driver for your printer from the manufacturer support site for your printer model. Don't use the CD that came with the printer to install unless you're sure it has a Windows XP certified driver.

3. Double-click the driver to start the installation of your printer driver.
4. Test the printer by printing any document or going to Control Panel > Printers > Properties > Print Test Page. If the test page prints correctly, your Printer Spooler is working.
Restart Printer Spooler
5. Click Start > Run. Type in services.msc and press 'Enter.'
6. Scroll down to the service 'Print Spooler' and double-click.
7. Select the 'Recovery Tab' and make all three options read 'Restart the Service.' Click 'OK' or 'Apply.'
8. Restart your computer and attempt to print a test page. If the test page prints correctly, your Printer Spooler is working.

1. Close all open error messages.
2. Insert the CD for the program being used (for example, Office 2000).

3. Start the program or try to use the feature that caused the error message.
4. Wait as Windows installer locates the needed files and automatically begins the installation process.
5. Navigate on the CD for the provided file name if prompted for a file. Select it, and click OK. This should only happen if Windows installer cannot find the file.

Browser Proxy Settings
1. Double-click the 'Internet Explorer' shortcut on your desktop to launch the browser. Click the 'Tools' menu and select the 'Internet Options' link from the menu. The 'Internet Options' dialog box displays onscreen.
2. Select the 'Connections' tab and the 'LAN Settings' button to launch the 'LAN Settings' dialog box.

3. Click the 'Use Proxy Server for your LAN' check box, if checked to remove the check mark, and then the 'OK' button twice to exit both dialog boxes.
Modified Host Files
4. Click the 'Start' button and type 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts' in the 'Search' box, then press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard to open the folder location.
5. Double-click the 'Hosts' file, select 'Notepad' on the 'Open With' window, and then click the 'OK' button to launch the file in Notepad.
6. Highlight all the GameGuard text entries and remove them by pressing the 'Del' key on your keyboard. Click the 'File' menu and select 'Save' from the drop-down menu, then exit Notepad to finish the process.

Blank Password
1. Access user accounts in Windows XP. Click 'Start' and 'Control Panel' and double click 'User Accounts.' Find the user who is associated with creating the task in the task scheduler. The account you used to sign into Windows XP before attempting to schedule the task is the user that is associated with that task.
2. Click on that user. Next, click 'Create a Password.'

3. Type in a new password. Click 'Create Password.' Close all programs and restart Windows.
4. Open Task Scheduler by clicking 'Start,' 'All Programs,' 'Accessories,' 'System Tools' and finally 'Scheduled Tasks.' Reconfigure the task that caused the error message and, when asked, provide the new user name and password. If the task is created, the problem is resolved.
Startup Program Restricting Permissions
5. Download Windows Defender from the Microsoft website. Double click the installation file and run the installation.
6. After the installation is complete, open Windows Defender by clicking 'Start,' 'All Programs,' 'Windows Defender.'
7. To see a list of software programs that run on startup, click 'Tools,' then 'Software Explorer.' Displayed will be the list of all software programs that run on startup. Click the name of any security or anti-virus program that might be interfering with permissions and then click 'Disable.'
8. Exit all applications and restart your computer. After your computer is restarted, reattempt the task or process that cased the error message.
9. Check the settings for each disabled security program to determine which caused the error message and change the appropriate setting. Open Windows Defender and re-enable each security program to open on startup.

Clean Installation Disc
1. Check the installation disc for any fingerprints, scratches or smudges. If the data is unable to be read from the disc, the 1628 error message may be generated.
2. Use a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with water to gently clean the disc. Wipe from the inside of the disc directly outwards, never in a circular pattern.

3. Attempt to reinstall the program after cleaning the disc. If the disc is clean and the error persists, there may be a problem with InstallShield.
Repair InstallShield
4. Disable running process of InstallShield. They may have crashed and need to be restarted. Access the task manager by pressing 'Ctrl Alt Del'and selecting task manager. Under the processes tab disable 'idriver.exe' and 'msiexec.exe.'
5. Navigate to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files.' Right click on the 'InstallShield' folder and select 'Rename.' Change the folder name to 'InstallShield1' and press enter to confirm it. Run the install again; Windows will attempt to reinstall the needed InstallShield files.
6. Download Windows Installer from Microsoft, if the install produced the 1628 error after renaming the InstallShield folder. The downloaded file will check that your version is up-to-date. Older versions may have latent bugs or errors and be incompatible with what you are trying to install.
7. Create a new user account with administrator rights. Log out of the current user account and into the new account. This will help eliminate any user rights conflicts that may be causing the 1628 error message.
8. Attempt to install the program again. If the 1628 error appears again, than there may be something wrong with the install medium such as a scratched and damaged disc or faulty reader. Alternatively, a corrupted file in the operating system or virus can also cause the 1628 error message.

1. Click on 'Start.' Click 'Run.'
2. Type 'msconfig' (no quotes) in the Open box. Click 'OK.'

3. Select the 'Services' tab.
4. Scroll down and find the Windows Installer option. Click on the check box next to it to select it. Click 'OK.'
5. Restart your computer.

1. Select the 'Run' option from the Start menu.
2. Type 'scanreg' in the Run text box and click the 'Run' button. ScanReg will then scan your machine for registry errors. If no errors are detected, your registry is clean and no further action is required.

3. Type 'scanreg/fix' in the Run text box and click the 'Run' button. If your initial scan detected problems in your registry, this command will scan the registry again and fix any errors.

Removing Drwtsn.exe
1. Log in to the Windows administrator account.
2. Click 'Start' in the lower-left corner of the screen. Then click 'Run.'

3. Type 'cmd' and press 'Enter' to open a command prompt window.
4. Type 'cd c:\windows\system32' followed by pressing 'Enter.'
5. Type 'del drwtsn32.exe' and press 'Enter' to delete this file.
Disabling the Dr. Watson Program
6. Log in to the Windows administrator account.
7. Click 'Start' in the lower-left corner of the screen. Then click 'Run.'
8. Type 'drwtsn32' and press 'Enter' to open the 'Dr. Watson' window.
9. Uncheck all boxes under 'Options' in the 'Dr. Watson' window. Click 'OK.'

Fix Windows XP From the Control Panel Screen
1. Roll back the driver device by selecting 'Performance and Maintenance' from the Control Panel. Hit 'Properties,' click the 'Driver's' tab and then 'Roll Back Driver.'
2. Disable a device by clicking 'Performance and Maintenance' from the Control Panel. Choose the 'Hardware Tab,' scroll down to 'Device Manager,' and disable the device that is causing problems by right-clicking with your mouse.

3. Locate the 'System Restore' on the left side of the screen after selecting 'Performance and Maintenance' from the Control Panel.
4. Add or remove programs that appear when you click on 'Add or Remove Programs' from the Control Panel.
Repair Windows XP Using the Operating System Disc
5. Place the Operating System disc into the E Drive tray. Restart your computer.
6. Choose the 'To setup Windows XP now press ENTER' option.
7. Press the 'F8' key to agree when the license page comes up. Key in 'R' to repair Windows XP. The Setup Wizard prompts you along the way.
Reinstall a Fresh Copy of Windows XP Using Recovery Console
8. Place the Operating System disc into the E Drive tray. Restart your computer. When 'Press any key to boot from CD' displays on the screen, select the first option 'To setup Windows XP now press ENTER.'
9. Press the 'F8' key to agree on the license page. Select 'To continue install a fresh copy of windows XP without repairing, press Esc.'
10. Pick 'To continue install a fresh copy of windows XP without repairing.' Press the 'Esc' key and the partitioning screen displays.
11. Press 'Enter' if you have a partition, then select 'Format the partition using the NTFS file system.' If don't, select default settings to create a partition.
12. Ignore the 'Press any key to boot from CD.' The Setup Wizard continues to download important files onto your computer. After the prompt says 'finish,' setup is complete.
Repairing Windows Vista Using Startup Repair
13. Access 'Startup Repair' through the 'Windows Recovery Environment.' You must have the Windows Vista DVD in the DVD drive.
14. Wait for the 'Press any key to boot from CD' message to appear. Then it tells you 'Windows is Loading.' The next screen is your time and language settings.
15. Configure language settings and time, and then press 'Next.' The following screen is the 'Install and Repair' screen.
16. Choose to 'Repair Your Computer,' and the computer then scouts for all Vista installations. Next the 'System Recovery Options' appears.
17. Highlight the installation you want to fix, load any drivers that you need and press 'Next.' If problems are found, then the 'Startup Repair' dialog box appears, and searches for problems.
18. Upload the 'Status Repair' box. Additionally, another box appears asking if you want to restore. It's recommended you don't, so simply hit 'Cancel' to continue the repair.
19. Use 'Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool' to check for memory errors. Select the 'Command Prompt' to remove viruses and malware. Learn more about this through the 'How to use the Command Prompt in the Vista Windows Recovery Environment' manual.

1. Insert your flash drive into an available USB port on your computer.
2. Click the 'Start' button in Windows XP or the Windows logo button in Windows 7 and Vista. Click 'Run' in XP. In the 'Run' box in XP and in the 'Search files' box in Vista and 7, type 'devmgmt.msc' and press 'Enter' to open the Device Manager. Double-click 'Disk Drives' in the list to expand it. Right-click the name of your USB flash drive and click 'Properties.' Select the 'Policies' tab. Click 'Optimize for performance.' Click 'OK.' Close the Device Manager window.

3. Click the 'Start' button or Windows logo button. Click 'Computer' or 'My Computer.'
4. Double-click the drive letter of your USB flash drive to open it.
5. Click on all the files you want to save to highlight and select them. Hold the 'Ctrl' button while you click to select multiple files. Right-click the selected files and click 'Copy.' Click the 'Minimize' button in the top right corner of 'My Computer' or 'Computer.'
6. Right-click anywhere on the desktop background and click 'Folder' from the 'New' menu. Enter a name for the folder to which you're going to save the files from your flash drive; press 'Enter.' Double-click the folder to open it. Right-click anywhere in the folder and click 'Paste' to paste the files from your flash drive to the folder. Close the folder window.
7. Click the 'My Computer' or 'Computer' icon in the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen to restore it and make it an active window. Click 'My Computer' or 'Computer' in the left column.
8. Right-click your USB flash drive in the 'Devices with Removable Storage' section. Click 'Format.' In the 'File System' drop-down menu, click 'FAT32' or 'NTFS.' Click 'Start' to automatically run and complete the formatting process.
9. Locate the saved folder on your desktop that contains the files you saved from your flash drive. Click the folder and drag it over top of your flash drive icon in the 'My Computer' or 'Computer' window.

1. Press 'Ctrl,' 'Alt,' and 'Delete' together to open the Windows Task Manager. Click the 'Processes' tab to show the currently running processes on your computer.
2. Scroll down and click 'bcmwltry.exe.' Click 'End Process.' This will stop this program from running. Move to the next step to remove it from startup if it automatically launches every time you start your computer.

3. Click the Windows 'Start' button and click 'Run.' Type 'msconfig' (without quotes) and click 'OK' to open the Systems Configuration Utility.
4. Click the 'Startup tab' and remove the check from 'bcmwltry,' or 'Broadcom.' Click 'OK' and restart your computer.
5. Double-click 'My Computer' on the desktop and double-click the 'C:' drive. Double-click the 'WINDOWS' folder. Double-click the 'System32' folder. Locate the bcmwltry.exe process and delete it.

Run Vista Startup Repair
1. Insert your Vista installation disc into your CD- or DVD-ROM drive and then restart your computer (click the 'Start' button, point to the arrow in the bottom-right corner and click 'Restart').
2. Pick a language from the list, click 'Next,' click 'Repair your computer,' choose the operating system to repair and then click 'Next.'

3. Click 'Startup Repair' and follow any instructions and prompts that appear as the repair process attempts to fix problems. This process is meant to fix errors such as missing system files that might be interfering with your startup.
Troubleshooting Blue Screen Errors
4. Turn off automatic restart. Click 'Start,' right-click 'Computer,' select 'Properties,' click 'Advanced System Settings,' click 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery,' uncheck 'Automatically Restart' under 'System Failure,' and then click 'OK.' This will prevent your computer from restarting on its own the next time it has a blue screen error.
5. Record all the error information the next time your computer has a blue screen error. The blue screen will contain information about the error, such as an error code and other technical information.
6. Go to Microsoft's Support website (see Resources) and search for information to fix your specific blue screen error. Microsoft has guides and help for fixing many specific blue screen and system errors.
Other Steps
7. Run Windows Update. Click 'Start,' 'All Programs' and then 'Windows Update.' Click 'Install' to install any new updates that your system detects.
8. Run Windows Defender. Click 'Start,' 'Control Panel,' 'Windows Defender' and 'Scan,' and remove any spyware or malware threats that the scan detects.
9. Update or roll back drivers. Click 'Start,' right-click 'Computer,' click 'Manage' and click 'Device Manager.' Double-click on a device category, right-click on a hardware device listed under the category you selected and choose 'Properties.' Click the 'Driver' tab and then click 'Update driver...' to update the device or 'Roll Back Driver' to have the driver revert to an older version.

1. Click the 'Start' button and open 'Control Panel.'
2. Click 'Uninstall a Program' or 'Add/Remove Programs.'

3. Scroll down the list of programs to locate Internet Explorer and click 'Uninstall' or 'Remove.'
4. Click 'Next' or 'OK' to begin the removal process. Allow your system to reboot to complete the process.
5. Ensuring that your system meets the system requirements for Internet Explorer, then download and install it.
6. Restart the computer to finish the installation of Internet Explorer. Double click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop and complete the setup wizard.

1. Make sure your computer’s hard drive has at least 500 MB of space remaining in its memory. This ensures that the Rosetta Stone software has enough room to completely install on your computer.
2. Keep Rosetta Stone open during the entire installation process, from the time Rosetta Stone first opens on your computer until you receive the confirmation that the program is installed. Closing Rosetta Stone or canceling the installation before it is complete can cause program errors.

3. Update your Rosetta Stone software when a new version comes out. Updates are available on Rosetta Stone’s website, under the “Support” tab.
4. Take the appropriate steps to deal with error 2123 according to your operating system. This error will occur when you are trying to start the program, and it will not allow you to go past the opening screen. For Windows Vista or Windows 7 programs, completely restart your computer; this will normally fix the trouble. For Mac users, Rosetta Stone’s updated version will only run on Mac OS X operating systems version 10.4 or higher. If you receive this message on that operating system or while using Windows XP, contact Rosetta Stone support via their website.

Fix Windows Media Player 12 Settings
1. Click “Start,” type “msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic” (without quotes) into the search box and press the “Enter” key to load the “Windows Media Player Settings” diagnostic tool.
2. Click “Next” to detect any errors with the settings on Windows Media Player 12.

3. Click “Apply this fix” to repair any errors with the settings on Windows Media Player 12.
4. Click “Close the troubleshooter” to exit the “Windows Media Player Settings” diagnostic tool.
Fix Windows Media Player 12 Library
5. Click “Start,” type “msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerLibraryDiagnostic” (without quotes) into the search box and press the “Enter” key to load the “Windows Media Player Library” diagnostic tool.
6. Click “Next” to detect any errors with the Windows Media Player 12 library.
7. Click “Apply this fix” to repair any errors with the Windows Media Player 12 library.
8. Click “Close the troubleshooter” to exit the “Windows Media Player Library” diagnostic tool.
Fix Windows Media Player 12 DVD Options
9. Click “Start,” type “msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerDVDDiagnostic” (without quotes) into the search box and press the “Enter” key to load the “Windows Media Player DVD” diagnostic tool.
10. Click “Next” to detect any errors with the Windows Media Player 12 DVD options.
11. Click “Apply this fix” to repair any errors with the Windows Media Player 12 DVD options.
12. Click “Close the troubleshooter” to exit the “Windows Media Player DVD” diagnostic tool.

1. Click the 'Start' button on the Windows 7 computer desktop and click 'Programs,' then 'Internet Explorer.' Type '1.2.3.4' (all typing done without the quotation marks) into the address bar at the top of Internet Explorer, replacing '1.2.3.4' with the IP address of the Linksys router. Press the 'Enter' key. Type the administrator credentials of the router into the administration page that appears and press the 'Enter' key. Click the 'Security'tab and click 'VPN Passthrough.' Click the 'Enable' radio button in the 'PPTP Passthrough' row and click the 'Save Settings' button.
2. Open 'Internet Explorer' on the Windows 7 computer and type '5.6.7.8' into the address bar at the top of Internet Explorer, substituting the '5.6.7.8' with the IP address of the D-Link router. Press the 'Enter' key. Enter the user name and password of the router administrator account into the Web page that appears and press the 'Enter' key. Click the 'Advanced' tab and click 'Firewall Settings.' Tick the 'Enable PPTP Passthrough' check box so that the box is selected. Click the 'Save Settings' button.

3. Start the 'Internet Explorer' web browser on a Windows 7 computer and type 'a.b.c.d' into the address bar in Internet Explorer but replace 'a.b.c.d' with the IP address of the Netgear router and tap the 'Enter' key. Type the user name and password for the account that has administrator permissions on the router into the Web page that is displayed. Press the 'Enter' key. Click 'WAN Setup' in the left pane and click the 'Enable' radio button in the 'PPTP Passthrough' row. Click the 'Apply' button to save the settings.

1. Click 'Start' button on the left-hand side of the Windows task bar on the computer with JIT Debugger. Type 'regedit' in the search field. This will open your computer's registry editor.
2. Scroll within the computer's registry editor and locate the following files:-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebugger

3. Delete and remove these files from the registry editor. Be careful not to delete other files, as that may corrupt your computer. If your system is running a 64-bit operating system, you should also delete these files from the registry using the registry editor:-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\DebuggerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebuggerPlease see the Tips section of this article to determine if you are running a 64-bit system.
4. Close the Windows registry editor window. This should successfully stop your JIT Debugger and disable it completely from running on your computer.

Repair the Boot.ini File
1. Place a bootable Windows XP CD into your CD-ROM drive. Restart your computer and allow it to boot from the CD.
2. Press 'R' at the 'Welcome to Setup' dialog in the text-based setup program. Choose the Windows installation that you need to fix. Type in the Administrator's password if you set one during the installation of Windows XP. Just push 'Enter' without entering a password if you did not set an Administrator password during setup.

3. Enter the three commands below at the command prompt. Type each line one at a time. Press 'Enter' after typing in each command:'ATTRIB -H -R -S C:\BOOT.INI''DEL C:\BOOT.INI''BOOTCFG /REBUILD FIXBOOT'
4. Type 'exit' and press 'Enter' to close the Recovery Console. Restart the computer and attempt to boot into Windows.
Expand a New Copy of Hal.dll
5. Put a Windows XP CD into your computer. Boot the computer into the Recovery Console in the same manner as you did to repair the Boot.ini file.
6. Enter the command 'EXPAND D:\I386\HAL.DL_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HAL.DLL' at the Command Prompt. Press the 'Enter' key.
7. Remove the Windows XP CD from the drive. Type 'exit' to quit the Recovery Console and boot the computer system back into Windows.

1. Remove any traces of Java Runtime from your computer. Do this by clicking the Windows 'Start' button and clicking the 'Control Panel.'
2. Double-click 'Add or Remove Programs' (Windows Vista users) to open the programs window. For Windows Vista users, click 'Program and Features' and click 'Uninstall a Program' to open the programs window.

3. Scroll through the Programs window and select the Java application you have and click 'Remove/Uninstall' to remove it from your computer.
4. Try downloading and installing Java (see Resources) again. Move to the next step if you run into the 1722 error again.
5. Download the offline Java installation file (see Resources) and save it on your desktop. Double-click the offline installation file and click 'Run' to begin the installation wizard.
6. Click 'View license agreement.' Click 'Install' after reading it. The files are copied to your computer system and the program is installed on your computer.

Click the 'Start' button and then click 'Run.' A small window titled 'Run' will open just above the Start menu and taskbar.

Type 'regedit' into the 'Open' box and click 'OK' or press the 'Enter' key. The Registry Editor will open.

Click the triangular button to the left of 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' to expand this registry folder. Find and expand the following folders in order: 'SOFTWARE,' 'Microsoft,' 'Windows,' 'CurrentVersion' and 'App Paths.'

Locate 'HELPCTR.EXE' in the 'App Paths' folder. If it is missing, right click 'App Paths.' Point to 'New' and select 'Key.' Type 'HELPCTR.EXE' into the 'New Key' field and press 'Enter.'

Select 'HELPCTR.EXE' in the left pane and then right click '(Default)' in the right pane. Select 'Modify' and type (or copy and paste) 'C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe' into the 'Values' box. Click 'OK' to finish fixing Help and Support and restart the computer.
