How to Fix NTLDR is Missing

Sunday, June 24, 2012 Off

1. Locate your Windows XP/2000 installation disc and place it in your CD/DVD ROM drive. If you don't have this disk, then you cannot proceed further.
2. Restart your computer.

3. When the computer restarts press any key on your keyboard when you are prompted, 'Press any key to enter setup.' Most computers are configured to boot to another device other than a hard drive. Since the Windows XP/2000 installation disk is bootable, you should see the prompt. However, if you don't see the prompt you may need to change your boot priority in your BIOS. To do so, enter the system BIOS by following the onscreen instructions upon startup. Then navigate to the Boot Priority menu and modify another device, such as a CD-ROM to boot prior to the hard drive. Then reboot your computer.
4. After you have pressed any key, the Windows XP/2000 setup screen will appear. After loading, press the 'R' key to repair the Windows installation. The screen will appear black. The computer requests which installation you would like to log in. Generally speaking, press '1' and 'Enter.' If you have more than one hard drive or more than one partition, the procedure may be different. You must know which hard drive or partition your Windows operating system is installed in. You are subsequently prompted for a password. If you haven't set up one up, you can just leave the query blank and press 'Enter.' The phrase 'c:\WINDOWS>' and a blinking cursor subsequently appear.
5. Type 'copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows' (without quotes), where 'D' is the letter of your CD/DVD ROM drive (your optical drive may be different, especially if you have more than one). Eject the CD from the drive and type 'Exit' (without quotes) to restart your computer. The NTLDR file will be copied from the installation disc to your hard drive.

How to Fix Windows Vista Blank Blue Screen Errors

Off

1. Turn off your computer if it is on. If you are experiencing the blue screen regularly, there is a good chance that it will not allow you to boot up your computer fully without shutting itself down. If this is the case, your computer is already more than likely off. Remove the power cord from the computer tower. If you are running a laptop, remove the charge cord, and remove the battery.
2. Remove the screws that hold the PC tower cover in place with a screwdriver. The tower cover usually only comes off on one side, so gently remove the side that is capable, and place it away from the tower. Users with laptops need to remove the RAM panel from the underside of the computer. This gives you access to the RAM for replacing.

3. Locate the RAM that is attached to the motherboard of your computer. You will see clasps that hold the RAM into place, and you may see more than one stick of RAM. Remove all of the RAM sticks by pushing the clasps away, unhooking the RAM from the motherboard. Click your new, replacement RAM into place, and cover the tower back up with the cover, or replace the laptop RAM panel.
4. Hook up the power cable or place the battery back in, and power on your computer. You now see that your computer is working without the blue screen appearing. If you have more than one stick of RAM, turn the computer off, and remove the power cords and battery. Insert one old RAM stick, and cover the tower back up, replace the power cord or battery, and turn on your computer. Check to make sure it does not present you with the blue screen. One by one, reinsert the old RAM sticks into your computer, and test your computer for stability. Once you are presented with the blue screen, remove the last old RAM stick that you inserted, and your blue screen problems are gone.

How to Reinstall an IP Driver in Windows XP

Friday, June 15, 2012 Off

Reinstall the Network Driver
1. Make sure you have a copy of your NIC driver. You would find this on the original installation CD for your NIC or on the original installation CD for your motherboard if your NIC is an integrated part of the motherboard. Alternately, if you have a second computer with an Internet connection, you can download a copy of the correct driver once you've identified it and place it on a CD, DVD or USB memory key.
2. Click the 'Start' button and right-click 'My Computer.' Click 'Properties' from the list that drops down. On the 'Hardware' tab, click 'Device Manager.'

3.

Expand 'Network Adapters' if there's a plus sign to the left of it. You may have more than one choice here. If you contact the Internet via a wired connection, your NIC probably has the word 'Ethernet' in its name. If your connection is wireless, your NIC probably has the word 'Wireless' in its name. Write down the exact name of your NIC.
4. Right-click on the name of your NIC and choose 'Uninstall' from the list that drops down. You may be asked to confirm that you really want to uninstall. When uninstallation is complete, the NIC should disappear from the Device Manager.
5. Restart your computer and log into Windows, which will probably auto-detect your NIC. .
6. Insert the disk or other media with your driver installation files on it. Some devices recommend that you trigger installation from the disk, in which case on-screen instructions will walk you through the rest of the process. If your NIC has this type of installer, close the 'Add Hardware Wizard' and use the installer. Otherwise, follow the on-screen instructions of the wizard. Let it automatically identify your device, but when it asks you where to find the driver, select the disk drive or device where you have the driver installation file.
7. Once installation is complete, restart your computer.
Reinstall the TCP/IP Stack
8. Turn your computer off. Wait 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Test to see if you experience the same problem.
9.

Try a reset of the TCP/IP stack. The TCP/IP stack is not actually a driver, but if you're getting the error 'IP Driver Error Code 2' or 'Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2,' your TCP/IP stack is corrupt. To perform a simple reset, click on the 'Start' button and choose 'Run.' Type in 'netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt' (without the quotes). Click 'OK.' Restart your computer and test to see if you still experience a problem.
10. Click the 'Start' button and open the Control Panel. Open 'Network Connections.' Right-click your network connection (usually 'Local Area Connection' for a wired connection or 'Wireless Network Connection #' for a wireless connection). Click 'Properties' in the list that drops down.
11. Click the 'Install' button. Click 'Protocol' and choose 'Add.' Click the 'Have Disk' button. For 'Copy manufacturer's files from,' type in C:\windows\inf (where C: is the drive where Windows XP is installed). Click 'OK.' Choose 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' and click 'OK.' Restart your computer.
12. Run a repair of your Windows XP installation if you're still having a problem. You will need your Windows XP installation files for this, either on CD or on your hard drive. Insert the CD or double-click 'setup.exe' in the directory on your hard drive. Follow the on-screen instructions. Choose to repair your existing Windows XP installation. The process should find your Windows XP installation automatically and may take half an hour or more. Enter your Windows XP product key when prompted. This is usually on the COA sticker on the front, side or bottom of your computer. Keep all your existing settings for computer and Workgroup or Domain names. At the end of the repair process, the computer will start Windows.

Scroll through the different add-ons and highlight any add-on that is listed as 'Enabled.' Then, click the 'Disable' tab at the bottom of the box to disable that add-on. Do this for every add-on and then close the box. Close Internet Explorer and open the browser again.
2. Reset your version of Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer and once again click 'Tools.' This time, you will need to choose 'Internet Options.' A small box will pop up. Click the 'Advanced' tab at the top of the box. Then, click the 'Reset' button. Doing so will reset Internet Explorer back to the default settings.

3. Search for updates for your version of Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer and this time click the 'Safety' option at the top of the browser. Then, select 'Windows Update.' Your browser will then open the Windows Update Web page. Click the 'Express' tab on that Web page. If there are any updates available, they will appear on the Web page. You will then be able to download updates by clicking the 'Install Updates' tab.
4. Scan your computer for any malware. Infections such as viruses, spyware and adware can cause Internet Explorer to close down. To be safe, it's wise to use both an anti-spyware program and an anti-virus program. You can download both of these programs (see Resources below).
5. Download and reinstall Internet Explorer. If performing the above steps did not solve your problem, your best bet is to just reinstall the program. Download the newest version of Internet Explorer (see Resources below).
