Windows

1. Click 'Start' and type 'Services.Msc.' Press 'Enter' on your keyboard to launch the Services applet. Alternatively, click 'Start,' then launch the 'Control Panel.' Click the 'Administrative Tools' applet and launch the 'Services' entry listed.
2. Browse for the 'Network DDE Service' as well as the 'Network DDE DSDM Service.' Double-click each item to launch its properties menu.

3. Click 'Start' under the 'Service Status' field to initialize the service in question. If either Network DDE service was entirely disabled, click the 'Startup Type' menu and select 'Automatic' or 'Manual.' The 'Automatic' option ensures the service is active at all times, while the latter option only functions as any given program may need it.
4. Click 'OK' for all settings to take place. Exit the Services applet by clicking the 'File' menu, followed by 'Exit.'

1. Place the Windows 7 installation DVD into your computer's DVD-ROM drive. Press the computer case 'Reset' button to reboot. When the startup prompt asks you to press any key, press 'Enter' to boot with the Windows DVD.
2. Click the 'Language' drop-down box and choose your language. Additionally, select your keyboard settings and timezone from the 'Keyboard' and 'Timezone' drop-down boxes. Click 'Next.'

3. Click 'Repair Your Computer' on the next window. Click the operating system that you want to repair and click 'Next.' This brings you to the main Windows recovery window.
4. Click 'Startup Repair.' Windows scans your computer for any corrupted or deleted files. When it finds the corrupted registry, it repairs it. This may take several minutes to complete.
5. Remove the DVD from your drive and reboot the computer again. Windows boots normally after the registry repairs.

1. Click the Start menu and select 'Control Panel.' Click 'User Accounts and Family Safety.' Click 'User Accounts.'
2. Click to choose the option 'Turn User Account Control on or off.'

3. Type admin username and password if/when prompted. Next, click 'Continue.'
4. Click to remove the check next to 'Use User Account Control (UAC).' Click 'OK.'
5. Reboot your computer and re-attempt to install VZAccess Manager.
6. Disable Windows Firewall during the installation. Firewall may hinder the VZAccess Manager installation process. To disable the firewall temporarily, click the Start menu and type 'Windows Firewall' (without quotes) in the Search bar. Click to launch 'Windows Firewall.' Click 'Turn Windows Firewall on or off' in the left pane. Choose 'Off (not recommeded).' Click 'Apply' and then 'OK.'
7. Attempt to reinstall VZAccess Manager. You will not see any more error messages.

Update, Scan and Troubleshoot to Fix Windows Explorer
1. Rule out potential corruption or other problems caused by malware by running full scans with your antivirus and antispyware programs. Before running the scans, make sure the programs are updated with the latest definitions. Alternately, run the scans while in Windows Safe Mode to prevent potential viruses or other malware from interfering with the programs.
2. Download and install any outstanding Windows updates, including service packs. To do so, visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web page (see Resources) and use it to run a scan on your computer for needed updates.

3. Restart Windows Explorer if the taskbar does not appear on your Windows desktop (and you're not using the auto-hide feature). To do so, press CTRL-ALT-DEL to start the Task Manager (depending on your operating system, you may need to click 'Start Task Manager' after pressing those keys). In Task Manager, click File, click New Task (Run), type Explorer in the Open field, and click OK.
4. Determine if recently installed software is interfering with Windows Explorer. Although most programs will play nicely with Windows Explorer, occasionally problems can occur that prevent Windows Explorer from running as it should. If you recently installed one or more programs, try uninstalling each program (one at a time) to see if the problems with Windows Explorer cease. If they do, check with the program's developer for an update, fix or workaround.
5. Perform a System Restore if you cannot locate a simple fix for Windows Explorer problems. To access this utility, click Start, All Programs, Access, System Tools and then System Restore. Choose a restore point prior to the time when you started experiencing problems with Windows Explorer.

1. Place the Windows Vista installation digital video disc into the DVD drive. Restart the computer.
2. Press any key when prompted to boot the Windows operating system from the digital video disc. If the system does not boot from the Windows digital video disc, you may have to enter the system BIOS by selecting F2 or the appropriate item on the keyboard as per your computer's instructions and select 'boot from disc,' or the appropriate command. Change this when the process is complete to return to booting from the 'C' drive.

3. Select your keyboard, currency and language. Press 'Next.'
4. Select 'Repair Your Computer.'
5. Select the drive where Windows is stored, which is normally the 'C' drive and press 'Next' to repair your computer's boot problem.

1. Click on 'Start.' Right click on 'Computer' and select 'Properties' on the menu.
2. Click 'Advanced System Settings' located at top left corner. Under the 'Performance' field click 'Settings.'

3. Go to 'Data Execution Prevention' tab. Select 'Turn on Data Execution Prevention' for all programs and services.
4. Click 'Add.' Browse to c:windowssystem32 and select dllhost.exe. Next click 'Apply.' Restart your computer, and the problem should be will be solved.

System Restore
1. Log in to Windows XP using the administrator account. Click 'Start' and select 'All Programs,' then click 'System Tools' and click on System Restore.
2. Select the 'Restore my computer to an earlier time' option from the 'System Restore' window and click 'Next' to continue. Select a restore date from the calendar and then choose a restore point from the list. The restore point you choose should be the most recent date that you are sure the computer was functioning properly before the '0X0000009a' error occurred.

3. Click 'Next' to bring up a System Restore dialog window that will inform you of the changes that will be made to your computer based on the restore point you have selected. Click 'OK' to continue or 'Cancel' to select a later date.
4. Click the 'Next' button on the 'Confirm System Restore' window to start the system restore. Windows XP will automatically restart once the system has been restored. If the '0X0000009a' error still occurs while Windows XP is attempting to load, it may be due to a violation of the Microsoft Windows XP software license agreement.
Activation Wizard
5. Log in to Windows XP using the administrator account. Click 'Start' and then 'Run' to open a dialog window. Type 'regedit' in the field provided and click 'OK' to open the Registry Editor.
6. Expand the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,' 'Software' and 'Microsoft' folders in the left-side navigational pane of the 'Registry Editor' utility by clicking ' ' next to each folder. Expand the 'WindowsNT' and 'CurrentVersion' folders as well and click on the 'WPAEvents' registry key listed under the 'CurrentVersion' folder.
7. Right-click on the 'OBETimer' registry value in the right-side pane of the 'Registry Editor' utility and select 'Modify' to edit this registry value. Change one of the numbers in the 'Value' text field and click 'OK' to save these changes. This will deactivate Windows so that you may re-activate Windows XP using the Activation Wizard.
8. Click 'Start' and 'Run' again, then type '%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a' into the 'Open' input field. Click 'OK' to open the 'Activation Wizard' and select 'Yes, I would like to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows.' Click 'Next.'
9. Click the 'Change product key' and enter the Windows XP product key that came with your original copy of XP into the 'Product Key' text field. If your computer came with a copy of Windows XP installed, the product key may be printed on a sticker located on the back of your computer tower. Click the 'Update' button, then restart your computer once the product key has been updated.

1. Log on to the online 'Windows XP Solution Center' at Microsoft.com.
2. Click on 'Windows XP Fix it Solutions.' This will take you to a new page on the Solution Center website.

3. Scroll the webpage until you notice the appropriate 'error message' or a description of the error you're trying to fix. When you've located the specific error, click on it. This will take you to a new page.
4. Scroll through the 'Problem Description' until you reach the 'Fix it for me' heading. Click on the button labeled 'Fix this problem,' indicated visually by an icon of a mechanic holding a wrench.
5. Click 'Run' when the 'File Download' box pops up. After the 'Fix it for me' program finishes automatically repairing the problem, you will typically be prompted to restart your computer. After your computer boots back up, the error should be fixed.
6. Go to Microsoft's 'Computer Manufacturers' Contact Information' page if the problem persists, and contact your computer's manufacturing company using the toll-free telephone numbers provided. According to Microsoft.com, 'if your Microsoft product was installed on your computer when you purchased it,' as is the case with almost all PCs using Windows XP, 'the computer manufacturer is your primary source of technical support.'

Manually Editing the Registry
1. Log in as a system administrator. You will need write privileges to the system registry, and you will not have them as a 'limited' or 'normal' user.
2. Click 'Start,' 'Run,' type 'regedit' and then click 'OK.' The registry editor window should appear. If you are given an error message saying you do not have sufficient privileges to edit the registry keys, you are not logged in as an administrator.

3. Go to the File menu and select 'Backup' or 'Export' (depending on your version of Windows). The 'Save' dialog window will appear. Enter a name for the registry backup and click 'OK.'
4. Browse through the many registry hives in the column on the left looking for keys that either contain incorrect information (a mistoggled setting, etc.) or should not be there.
5. Edit the key appropriately using the panel on the right or delete the key from the left window using the Delete key or by right clicking and selecting 'Remove key.'
6. Close the registry editor when you are finished editing the registry and restart the computer. If the computer will not start up or is no longer working properly, boot into 'Safe Mode' and restore the previous registry from your backup using the registry editor.
Using a Registry Cleaner
7. Download a registry-cleaner utility. Two popular registry-cleaning software suites are CCleaner and Advanced SystemCare. Both of these applications are available for download free of charge (see Resource links).
8. Perform a virus scan on the downloaded files and install the software. You will probably need to be logged in as an administrator in order to install and use the software, since you will require write access to a vital system component (the registry).
9. Launch the utility and follow the on-screen prompts to perform a 'quick' or 'in-depth' registry scan. It's usually best to perform an in-depth scan every time, since it will usually catch more errors and does not take significantly longer than the quick scan. If the software doesn't automatically prompt you to back up your registry, do it manually.
10. Look briefly through the list of errors generated by the registry scan and choose (with a check mark) the errors you wish to remove. Sometimes the scan will generate a false positive of an error that really isn't an error. You can tell the software to ignore this instance during future scans.
11. Click the 'fix' or 'clean' button (depending on the software you use), and the software will automatically remove or properly edit the checked entries. Restart your computer. If the software fixed numerous errors, you may notice your system starts up much more quickly.

Method 1
1. Click on the 'Start' menu, and then select 'Run.'
2. Type 'msconfig' (without the quotation marks) into the open box, and click 'OK.'

3. Click on the 'Startup' tab.
4. Clear the 'dumprep 0 -k' or 'dumprep 0 -u' checkbox, and then click 'OK.'
Method 2
5. Click on the 'Start' menu, and select 'Run.'
6. Type 'regedit' (without the quotation marks) into the open box and click 'OK.' The Registry Editor window will open.
7. Locate the following file in the left pane of the Registry Editor window and click on it.'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run'
8. Right-click on 'Dumprep' in the right pane of the Registry Editor window and click 'Delete.'
9. Restart your computer.
