Windows

1. Click 'Start,' type 'Run' into the 'Search' box and press 'Enter.' The Run tool opens.
2. Type 'cmd' into the Search box, and click 'OK.' The Command Prompt opens.

3. Type the following commands. Press 'Enter' after each command and click 'Yes' when asked to confirm a command.cd C:WindowsSystem32icacls wgatray.exe /d everyoneicacls wgalogon.dll /d everyoneicacls legitcheckcontrol.dll /d everyone
4. Restart your computer.

1. Click the 'Start' or 'Globe' button on the PC desktop of the Windows 7 computer then click the 'Search' box. Type 'cmd' in the 'Search' box then right click on the command line icon that appears and click 'Run as Administrator'. The command line window will appear.Type 'bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn' at the command prompt and tap the 'Enter' key.
2. Type 'cd \path_to_file\' except replace the '\path_to_file\' with the exact path to the file causing the access violation and tap the 'Enter' key.

3. Type 'attrib -R file_name' except replace the 'file_name' with the exact name of the file being accessed at the time the access violation error occurs. Tap the 'Enter' key then test to confirm that the access violation condition has been resolved.

1. Identify the type of error. There are three types of errors that can appear when handling certificates: Your computer does not recognize the certificate, the certificate is out of date (expired), or there is an incorrect URL attached to the certificate. To identify the error, attempt to reproduce it by visiting the site. The error should give some information as to why the validation did not succeed.
2. Click on View Certificates in the address bar (Internet Explorer). If you're using a different browser, select the option that allows you to view your current certificates.

3. Click on Install Certificate (Internet Explorer). On other browsers, select the option that allows you to install or add a certificate to the browser. After you've clicked Install Certificate, click Next.
4. Set the location where the certificate will be stored. This should be determined for you and set to the browser's default location. To finish the installation, click Next. Then click Finish.
5. Confirm the install by clicking Yes. After you've done this, the certificate should be installed. The next time that you visit the site, you should not receive an error.

1. Click on the 'Start' menu and select the 'Run' option. This displays the Run window or dialog box. Type 'c:\windows\system32\wgatray.exe /u' into the text field and then click the 'OK' button.
2. Click the 'Start' menu and select the 'Run' option. Type 'regedit' into the text field and then click the 'OK' button. Windows Registry Editor opens.

3. Click the 'Edit' drop-down menu and select the 'Find' option. Type 'wgalogon' into the 'Find What' field and then click the 'Find Next' button.
4. Right-click the WgaLogon folder and select 'Delete' from the context menu. Click the 'File' drop-down menu and select 'Exit' to close the Registry Editor.
5. Click the 'Start' button and then select the 'Search' option. Select the 'All files and folders' option. Type in wgatray.exe into the 'All or part of the file name' field and then click the 'Search' button.
6. Right-click the wgatray.exe file and select 'Delete' from the context menu.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the WGAlogon.dll file.
8. Click the 'Start' button and then go into the Control Panel. Double-click the icon for the Security Center. Click the 'Automatic Updates' option at the bottom of the window.
9. Select the 'Notify me but don't automatically download or install them' option. Click the 'Apply' button to save the change. Click the 'OK' button to close the window.

1. Quickly write down the stop code contained in the blue-screen error message before your computer completes its memory dump and shuts down.
2. Cross-reference the code against the master list provided by Microsoft in the page linked below in References.

3. Attempt the listed hotfix for your particular blue-screen error, starting with the least complex fix and working your way up until the problem is resolved. For example, if the listed fixes involve clearing the memory or replacing the system processor, try clearing the memory before moving to the extreme step of replacing hardware.

1. Turn on your PC. As your PC is starting up, tap the 'F8' keyboard key one time. This loads the Windows 'Advanced Startup Options' page.
2. Press the arrow button on your keyboard until 'Repair Your Computer' is selected.

3. Press 'Enter.' The Windows repair utility will launch. It will repair errors with your master boot record and other aspects of your computer without the use of a CD. When the process is finished, Windows will load normally.

Close Processes
1. Complete or close any software installation processes underway on your computer.
2. Right-click the task bar at the bottom of your desktop and select 'Start Task Manager' from the context menu.

3. Click the 'Processes' tab and then click 'Show Processes From All Users.'
4. Look for running processes with names like 'setup.exe,' 'msiexec.exe,' 'uninst.exe,' 'isetup.exe,' 'ikernel.exe' or 'IsInst.exe.' For each of these processes that you find running, click on the entry and then click the 'End Process' button.
5. Try running the installer again.
Re-register Service
6. Click 'Start,' 'All Programs' and then 'Accessories.' Right-click on 'Command Prompt' and choose 'Run as Administrator.'
7. Type 'Msiexec /unreg' (without quotes) into the command prompt window, then press your 'Enter' key to unregister the Windows Installer service.
8. Type 'Msiexec /rereg' (without quotes) into the command prompt window and press 'Enter' to re-register the Windows Installer service.
9. Try running the installer again.

1. Download the most up-to-date device driver for your mouse. You can typically find updated drivers on the manufacturer's website. Save the file to your desktop.
2. Press the 'Windows' key on the keyboard and hold it. Press the 'R' key to launch the Windows Run dialog box.

3. Type in 'devmgmt.msc' and press 'Enter.' The Windows Device Manager appears.
4. Scroll down and locate the 'Mice and other pointing devices' section. Click the ' ' icon to expand the selection, then right-click the installed mouse. Select 'Update driver.' The Hardware update wizard will appear.
5. Select 'No, not this time,' then click 'Next' in the wizard.
6. Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and click 'Next.'
7. Select 'Search for the best driver in these locations.' Place a check mark next to 'Include this location in the search' then click 'Browse.' Navigate to the driver file located on your desktop and click 'OK.' Click 'Next.' Windows will install the new driver file, then ask if you want to restart the computer.
8. Click 'Yes' to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

1. Boot your computer, insert the Windows XP CD-ROM in your optical drive and restart your machine. Select the option to boot from CD-ROM.
2. Press the 'R' key to start the Recovery Console. Type your Administrator Password, if prompted.

3. 4. Type 'Exit' and press 'Enter,' to close the Recovery Console. The computer will automatically reboot.
5. Tap the 'F8' key when the computer reboots to bring up the black 'Boot to Safe Mode' screen. You May need to tap the key several times. Use the down arrow to select 'Safe Mode' and press 'Enter.'
6. Log in to Windows XP as the Administrator. Click the 'Start' button, select 'My Computer,' right-click on the 'C' drive and select 'Explore.'
7. Click on 'Tools,' click 'Folder Options' and select the 'View' tab. Scroll down to 'Hidden Files' and place a check mark next to 'Show Hidden Files and Folders.' Remove the check mark next to 'Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended).' Click 'Yes' to the confirmation prompt.
8. Right-click on the 'System Volume Information' folder and select 'Open.' Select the 'View' menu, and click 'Details' to show create dates and time on the sub-folders within the 'System Volume Information' folder.
9. Open any folder that begins with '_Restore' and that has a creation date before your current date and time. For example, '_restore{D852396E5-73Ef-56CG...}.'
10. Open one of the folders that begins with 'RP...' and open the 'Snapshot' folder. Copy and paste the following files to C:\Windows\Tmp:'_REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT''_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY''_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE''_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM''_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM'Rename the copied files, in the C:\Windows\Tmp folder, as follows:Rename '_REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT' to 'DEFAULT'Rename ' _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY' to 'SECURITY'Rename ' _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE' to 'SOFTWARE'Rename '_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM' to 'SYSTEM'Rename '_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM' to 'SAM'
11. Launch the Recovery Console and type the following lines at the command prompt. 12. Type 'Exit' and press 'Enter,' to close the Recovery Console. The computer will automatically reboot.
13. Log in to Windows XP as the Administrator. Click the 'Start' button and click 'All Programs.' Select 'Accessories' and click 'System Tools.'
14. Click 'System Restore' and select 'Restore to a Previous Restore Point.' Reboot your machine when the restore completes.

Windows 7 and Vista
1. Reboot your computer with the Windows 7 installation disc inside the computer's disc tray.
2. Select your desired language from the menu and click the 'Next' button.

3. Select 'Repair your computer' from the menu that appears. Select your version of Windows 7 from the menu and click the 'Next' button.
4. Click on the 'System Repair' option in the menu. The computer subsequently performs a system repair and then automatically restarts.
Windows XP
5. Insert your Windows XP installation CD into the computer's optical drive and boot the computer.
6. Select the 'Boot from CD' option when prompted on the screen. Wait for the 'Welcome to Setup' screen and then press the 'R' button to enter the 'Recovery Console.'
7. Enter your administrator password into the field when prompted on the screen and then press 'Enter.'
8. Type 'recovery console commands' into the command prompt and press the 'Enter' button to view a list of the commands that you can use.
9. Select the 'System Repair' tool from the menu and press the 'Enter' button. Wait for the computer to repair itself and then restart automatically.
